This 20,000 word research thesis is the output from Dr Lambers’ 2011 Bachelor of Medical Science Research Degree. It details the modern aims for total hip replacement surgery particularly in regards to leg length and offset changes, and explores the various forms of computer assisted surgery available at the time of the study.
A clinical study was then conducted examining the accuracy and usefulness of intra-operative computer feedback on hip replacement component positioning and its effect on outcomes. Dr Lambers was awarded the University of Melbourne Professorial Research Prize for his oral presentation on this topic in 2011. Dr Lambers later continued his academic research career obtaining a Master of Surgery and PhD by research at the University of Western Australia.
