I’m an orthopaedic surgeon based in the beautiful town of Bright, Victoria. I’ve always had a passion for helping people move better through surgery, research and teaching other doctors, and I’m excited that you’ve taken the time to learn more about my journey.
I was born and raised in Melbourne, and from an early age, I was surrounded by a supportive community and family who encouraged my love of learning and the outdoors. I attended St. Kevin’s College, where I graduated as College Dux and was fortunate to receive both the Australian Student Prize and the Victorian Premier’s Award for my VCE results. Achieving an ATAR score of 99.90 allowed me to pursue my interest in studying medicine and learning more about the human body. I also became more involved with the outdoors, becoming an Outdoor Education Program Leader and enjoying hikes and camping with my family.
I completed my medical degree at the University of Melbourne. It was an intense but rewarding six years, and during this time, I also completed a Diploma of Management and a Bachelor of Medical Science. With an enthusiasm for mechanics and human movement, I soon developed a special interest in orthopaedics. My passion for research also began here, as I completed a thesis in computer-assisted hip replacement surgery. For this research, I was awarded the Melbourne University Professorial Research Award for Best Oral Surgical Presentation in 2011.
During my early medical career, I worked as a hospital registrar in general surgery (trauma), urology (men’s health & cancer), general medicine, neuro-rehabilitation and rheumatology (joint & soft tissue diseases), gaining significant experience outside of orthopaedics so that I could better manage patients as a whole. I then applied for entry into the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s surgical training program and was honoured to be notified I had been the top-ranked applicant Australia-wide. Admission to the program allowed me to train with some exceptional surgeon-mentors in Melbourne and regional Victoria and gain valuable experience in all areas of orthopaedics. During training, I also earned a Master of Surgery by research, began teaching for a US educational website, started an educational YouTube channel (more on these below) and commenced my PhD, continuing to expand my understanding of the field and make valuable research and teaching contributions.
I’m extremely passionate about teaching the next generation of doctors. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with platforms like Orthobullets, where alongside the site’s US founder I co-developed a spaced repetition learning algorithm and user interface for flashcards on their international platform. This has improved learning efficiency for thousands of orthopaedic trainees internationally, and I continue to work for the site as an author and content reviewer.
I also run my own YouTube channel, OsteoClassed, which I created to provide teaching materials for those interested in the field. I love breaking down complex topics and making them easier for students and healthcare professionals alike to understand.
Skiing has always been a huge part of my life, and I have volunteered alongside my two brothers with the Mt. Hotham Volunteer Ski Patrol. My wife and I did our medical student GP student placements in Bright, and we absolutely fell in love with the region. After completing my orthopaedic training and undertaking a rotation in Wangaratta, we decided to settle down in Northeast Victoria to raise our family.
When I’m not at work, you can usually find me outdoors—skiing, mountain biking, or camping with my family. For a very brief period I even tried my hand at Sea Kayaking. We did a caravan lap of the coast of Australia in 2024 to explore our beautiful country and spend some quality time together as a family after several years of study and training. I’m a proud husband and father, and our kids and pets keep me on my toes!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a bit about me. Whether you’re seeking care for an issue or just curious to learn about some topics in orthopaedics, I hope you find the website helpful.
